19th-Century English Neo-Classical Deep-Seated Sofa, c.1870–1890

A substantial 19th-century Neo-Classical sofa, combining architectural detailing with the generous proportions of a deeply sprung club-form seat.

Monumental outscrolled arms feature circular Regency-pleated facings, while the exceptional hardwood front legs are worked with deeply undercut, graduated ring turning, creating a distinctive louvre-like effect of overlapping profiles and shadow before terminating in brass castors.
