A substantial late 19th-century French oak double bed, designed in the Henri II / Renaissance Revival taste, with a high architectural headboard, panelled footboard and richly carved detailing throughout.
The headboard is centred by a large carved crest above a garland of flowers and ribbon, with an arched pediment and three recessed fielded panels below. Turned uprights, architectural blocks and finials give the frame its strong vertical structure.
The footboard repeats the panelled construction, centred by a particularly good carved floral panel within an oval reserve, with incised decoration running across the upper and lower rails. The four corner posts combine turned sections, fluting and stepped architectural detailing.
Constructed predominantly in oak, with a warm aged surface and visible grain throughout. The bed dismantles into headboard, footboard and side rails. The original-style threaded bed bolts secure the frame firmly once assembled.
A strong example of French late-19th-century revival furniture: decorative, architectural and unusually complete as a bed frame.

Condition
Good antique condition with the expected age-related wear, variation in colour and surface marks consistent with use and age. The carved decoration remains particularly crisp and the frame presents extremely well.
