A rectangular Chinese tray in red lacquer, its low gallery sides bound at each corner with iron mounts and straps, and the underside braced with iron at the corners. The lacquer has worn right back across the field, so the timber shows through in soft patches, giving it the faded, painterly look these provincial pieces take on after a long working life.
A good size for a coffee table or ottoman, for gathering bottles on a sideboard, or simply propped up as a piece of colour.
Chinese, probably late 19th or early 20th century.
Condition: Heavily worn lacquer with the wood showing through, scratches and marks throughout. A split or shrinkage line along the boards across the base. Wear to the iron mounts. Please see the photos.
