Iconic and rare horizontal variation of the Gerbe dining table by pioneering French designer Maria Pergay, circa 1970.This sculptural masterpiece exemplifies Pergay's groundbreaking use of stainless steel in the late 1960s and 1970s, a material she transformed into fluid, organic forms that blend industrial precision with dreamlike elegance. The dramatic base consists of multiple curved and flat "rushes" or ribbon-like blades radiating outward in a horizontal sheaf, creating a sense of dynamic movement and lightness. It supports a substantial clear glass top (20mm thick) that measures 210 x 128 cm - perfect for grand dining while allowing the base to remain the undeniable focal point.Referenced in the definitive monograph Maria Pergay: Complete Works 1957–2010 by Suzanne Demisch and Stephane Danant (as model no. 56, with noted horizontal and vertical variations), this example belongs to the rarer horizontal Gerbe series, prized for its explosive, starburst-like energy compared to the more common vertical bundled forms.
Provenance: Acquired from a private residence in the Buckinghamshire/Windsor area, UK. A timeless statement of 1970s French modernist design, this Gerbe table would elevate any contemporary, minimalist, or eclectic interior. Highly collectible and increasingly sought-after on the international market.
