A mid-century gentleman's valet stand, or suit butler, most likely Italian and dating from around the 1960s–70s. It's made in solid beech with a warm cherry-toned finish, in the style of the classic Italian valets of the period.
At the top is a shaped coat hanger with rounded shoulders that keeps a jacket in shape overnight. Just below sits an open tray for your wallet, keys, watch and cufflinks, and a brushed metal trouser bar that swings out on a pivot, so trousers hang neatly without creasing. Lower down, a round wooden rail takes shoes or a belt.
The rectangular base is braced by two metal tie bars and runs on four castors, so it moves easily around a bedroom or dressing room. It's light too, at about 3kg.
A handy, good-looking piece for a bedroom, dressing room or hallway, on a small footprint only 35cm deep.
Condition: Good vintage condition with honest wear. There are some marks and small areas of wear consistent with age and use, including a dark mark on one upright near the trouser bar pivot and minor marks to the tray. No maker's mark or label.
